Dr. Stanley Himes - Himes Health & Wellness Center in Columbus, Georgia

Since growing up as a child in Los Angeles, CA, I have always been passionate about getting people healthy. I wondered what effect the smog in the air was having on my lungs.

I attended UCLA where I received my Bachelor's degree in Biology. I decided when I was a freshman that I wanted to be a physician to help people get well.

I attended medical school at the University of California San Francisco. I wondered why we were taught to treat disease, rather than get our patient's healthy and well. Why the total of information we were taught on nutrition was done in one hour!

Why are so many people sick with chronic illnesses (heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes) and cancer? I really loved my courses in physiology and pharmacology and decided to become an Anesthesiologist.

After graduating and completing my residency training in Anesthesia, I began noticing the high incidence of breast cancer in a county close to where I lived. With no apparent reason for this high rate of cancer, I knew there must be a reason for this occurring. I felt it must be something in the environment that was causing this high rate of disease.

In 2002, I moved to Georgia and decided to make Columbus my home. For years prior, I noticed that conventional medicine was treating the symptoms of disease, rather than finding the actual cause.

I asked God to guide me on the journey to help people achieve their optimal wellness. In 2011, at the recommendation of Dr. Eldred Taylor of Dunwoody, GA, I began my fellowship in Anti-Aging Medicine with the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M). I received my Board Certification in Metabolic and Nutritional Medicine.

I also prayed to God to send me the love of my life. Someone to help me be the best physician and healer that God wants me to be. In 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (NIV) the bible says that Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres. LOVE NEVER FAILS. “

I embrace the field of functional medicine, which is a holistic approach, focusing on preventing disease before it starts. I believe in treating the person as a whole, analyzing their physical, nutritional, environmental, emotional, social and spiritual state as well as their lifestyle.
In January 2014, I met the love of my life. Teresa Jean Porter has been the answer to my prayers. I spent the next six months planning a special and unique proposal of marriage to her. On August 9, 2014, I asked Teresa Jean Porter to marry me and she said YES!

I would be honored for you to watch “A Proposal To Remember”atwww.youtube.com/watch?v=DFNVRIvNPvY . We were married on May 9, 2015 and we enjoy God's gift of unconditional love for each other. There are many health benefits of a happy marriage which I will discuss in an upcoming blog.
